Windows 8: (error 740: the requested operation requires elevation.) when opening a file with the context menu with Notepad++

The problem: I moved to Windows 8 and installed Notepad++ ( http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ ) which is a nice quick editor.

When I try to open a simple text file with the editor I would get this annoying error message.

Error: error 740: the requested operation requires elevation.

Solution

Normally, I would install Notepad++ into C:\Program Files (x86). This time however I installed it in C:\Program Files\

Before that though I uninstalled the program. Then I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\ and tried to delete the remaining files from Notepad++ folder but I couldn't.

(The uninstall process left some files).

I restarted my computer and now I was able to delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++\ folder.

Now I proceeded with the installation of Notepad++.
